My new library relationship

So I moved to Florida recently, and the first thing I did after getting my driver's license was head over to the library and get a library card, as one does when one is a NERD. Sigh. Even better, the library I went to turned out not to be the closest library to me, so I was compelled to head over to my neighborhood library just a couple of days later. And then I went back today. I now have a pile of eight books (after returning two today) on my counter. It's just like old times!

What's weird is how spoiled I was in Ohio without even realizing it. That's not saying that my new libraries are bad, not at all, and in fact I'm a bit in love with the downtown library, which I visited back in April. But I am just not used to branch libraries, with their more limited collections and smaller staffs. Both of the libraries I frequented in Ohio were main libraries, and my practicum library in particular had a large and wonderful collection, especially of the audiobooks I learned to love on my long commute.

But, I mean, I checked six books out today. And I've got holds on the ones I can't find in the library. So it's not like I'm deprived or anything.

Aaaaaand, I could walk to this library in about the time it took me to walk to class in undergrad. I declare this an excellent improvement. Now to read!

On the Move

I am such a bad blog-mommy this week. I've got a bunch of books I've read but not yet reviewed, because I've spent the last week working, finishing my final projects for my final grad school classes, and packing up my house to move. Right now I am in Jacksonville, Florida, hanging out in the new apartment that is thisclose to being officially unpacked and getting ready to head back up to Cleveland to finish my practicum and grad assistant job and then graduate!

I love the new apartment, even though it feels incredibly tiny after our house... I think we downsized by about 500 square feet of living space, plus another 600 or so square feet of basement space. There is still a lot of junk in Cleveland that I'm going to have to get rid of!

Since we're not yet cleaned up from the move, I will spare you pictures of the scary mountains of boxes, but I will show you the important book related items!

The bookshelf:
This is my triumph (I'm making a note here: huge success). Our books used to hang out on three bookshelves — this one and two others that were maybe a little smaller — and in closets, and on the floor... I spent a day or two going through every book and picking out the ones that I loved and wanted to keep or hadn't read but planned to, and that's what stayed. I didn't measure the books or anything, so I am pleased and amazed that they fit so well on this shelf! Off to the side there is a peek at our board game shelf, which I will miss back in Cleveland!

My reading corner:
This sunroom area is one of the major reasons we decided to get this apartment. The only thing in it right now is this really comfy chair and a lamp, and I plan to spend many unemployed hours reading books and enjoying the sunlight from the safety of air conditioning. It gets hot in Jacksonville!

Okay, now the hubby is declaring it "put lots of nails in the wall 'cause we've got artwork to put up!" time, so I am off! Perhaps more pictures when we are done!

Housekeeping Notes

First, because I forgot to mention this when it happened, I've completed the Support Your Local Library Challenge! I said I'd read 50 library books this year, and I have. In less than six months. Hmm. Considering I said I'd read 60 books total this year.... Well, that just goes to show you what unemployment will do to a girl. We'll see how classes and homework affect this reading rate for the rest of the year.

Also, I'm trying to fix up my Blogger template because I did a rather hack job of turning it into three columns a while back. I've found a 3-column version of this template done by someone cooler than me, but I also might go with something different, who knows? Basically, if you visit this site more than once today, you might see some construction going on. If you've got any suggestions for things I should add or take away, sidebar-wise, let me know!
